How much cash can you take to Malaysia?
There is no cap on what you may carry into Malaysia. At MYR 30,000 or more you must tell customs, which is free and takes a few minutes. The same figure applies leaving.
Entering Malaysia
MYR 30,000
or more — declare it
Leaving Malaysia
MYR 30,000
or more — declare it
Applies per person. Each traveller has their own figure. That does not make splitting a large sum across a group to avoid the threshold lawful — several countries treat that as an offence in its own right.
Export of ringgit by non-residents can be restricted further — check with Bank Negara Malaysia.

The figure above is only one end of the trip. Add where you're coming from or going to for both.

The rule in Malaysia, in full
Travellers entering or leaving Malaysia must declare cash and monetary instruments exceeding MYR 30,000 (or equivalent in foreign currency). Same threshold both directions, per traveller. Governed by Bank Negara Malaysia under the Anti-Money Laundering Act 2001 (AMLA). Note: export of MYR by non-residents may be further restricted — check with Bank Negara Malaysia for current rules.
Form: Foreign Currency Declaration Form (Bank Negara Malaysia / Customs). Get it from the authority at the border or their site — we don't mirror it here, because forms are revised without notice and a stale copy is worse than none.
