How much cash can you take to Colombia?

There is no cap on what you may carry into Colombia. At USD 10,000 or more you must tell customs, which is free and takes a few minutes. The same figure applies leaving.

Entering Colombia

USD 10,000

or more — declare it

Leaving Colombia

USD 10,000

or more — declare it

Counts your whole family or group together. Four people carrying USD 10,000 between them must file, even though no one person is near the figure. Splitting it up to stay under is itself an offence.

The figure above is only one end of the trip. Add where you're coming from or going to for both.

The rule in Colombia, in full

Cash or monetary instruments exceeding USD 10,000 (or equivalent in any currency, converted at the official rate) must be declared on both entry and exit using DIAN Form 530. IMPORTANT: like the USA, the threshold applies per FAMILY GROUP travelling together (persons with civil, blood or marital ties on the same means of transport), not strictly per individual, so perGroup=true. Undeclared excess is withheld and fined (roughly 30% of the excess on entry, 40% on exit).

Form: Form 530 - Declaración de Equipaje, Dinero en Efectivo y Títulos Representativos de Dinero - Viajeros (DIAN Form 530). Get it from the authority at the border or their site — we don't mirror it here, because forms are revised without notice and a stale copy is worse than none.
