Packing list generator

Backpacking packing list

Long trips are not short trips with more socks. Past a fortnight, quantities stop scaling — you will do laundry and you will buy things locally, so the list holds a rotation rather than a supply. Turning laundry on is the single change that most affects a backpacking list, and it roughly halves the clothing half of it.

The honest limitation: this tool builds for one destination and one climate at a time. A three-month trip through several climates is a real problem and a worse answer if we pretend otherwise, so run it per leg. The first leg is the one you have to carry through the airport anyway.

What this trip type changes

Laundry, on by default here

Anything that halves with a wash halves, and the list says so under the count rather than leaving you to wonder.

Weight becomes the constraint

The estimate at the top exists so a long list does not quietly become a bag you cannot carry. It is approximate and says so.

Multi-climate trips run per leg

We build against the destination's real climate for your dates. Two climates means two runs — which is more useful than one averaged list that suits neither.

Build the list

Already set up for this kind of trip. Add where you are going and your dates — those are the two things we will not guess.
